Job Description | GENERAL STATEMENT The Instructional Assistant – HHS assists in the development, design, and delivery of activity-based curriculum in Health & Human Services courses which may include classroom, lab, and practicum components of courses. The Instructional Assistant performs duties in a program specific area (i.e. Medical Radiography, Certified Medical Lab Assistant, Sonography, Mental Health & Addictions, Nursing, Practical Nursing etc). Under faculty guidance, the Instructional Assistant participates in related department projects. The position requires handling sensitive confidential documents and information and adherence to professional protocols. TYPICAL DUTIES - Assists with design, development, and preparation of course materials, supplies, and equipment for classroom, lab, and practicum activities; - Assists instructors in classroom or laboratory instruction and supervision; - In conjunction with faculty/supervisor, responsible for safe course, laboratory, simulation, and/or practical-based experiences within classroom, laboratory, simulation, and clinic settings; - Provides guidance to students during open classroom, labs, and simulation by reinforcing instruction and providing feedback; - Participates in the identification of students having difficulties and makes appropriate referrals to faculty; - Assists faculty in assessing students within the classroom or laboratory setting; - Completes objective marking (i.e. multiple choice), as required; - Supports and participates in the orientation of new students; - Liaises with community professionals and technical experts to establish and maintain an up-to-date employer-contact database; - Coordinates, assigns and reviews the work of contracted activity-based technical trainers, standardized patients (simulation actors), and equipment maintenance personnel; - Establishes a network of resources in order to sustain the various program activities; - Coordinates professional certification opportunities for students; - Implements a professional certification monitoring system to ensure quality of opportunity; - Reviews and stays current with instructional material related to classroom and lab activities; - Prepares and sets up equipment for labs and simulation; - Performs routine maintenance of laboratory environment, teaching aids and resource materials; - Maintains an inventory of materials and completes orders as required; - As directed participates in and assists with department projects; - Participates in department meetings, and on committees as required; - Performs other related duties similar in scope and complexity. |
Qualifications | Two years post-secondary education in program specific field (i.e. Medical Imaging, Nursing, Paramedicine, Medical Laboratory, Social Science, Early Childhood Education or similar professional discipline equivalent) and three years recent and related experience working with adult learners in a classroom, lab or practicum setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and current applicable registration, certification, and/or membership in a related health professional association. · Demonstrated knowledge and ability regarding client safety and workplace injury prevention techniques and related procedures and protocols; · Ability to interact effectively with students, faculty and staff; · Ability to work in a team focused environment; · Strong computer skills, including use of PACS systems or similar applicable computer software programs and MS Office Suite. |
