Job Description Additional Information
The School of Access seeks applications from qualified candidates for a part-time (50%) temporary, non-instructional faculty assignment in the Assessment Centre.
Reporting to the Dean, School of Access, the English Placement Counsellor (EPC) will, within established College policies, review and evaluate English Placement assessment results to make final placements for incoming student applicants. The EPC will, together with the Camosun College Assessment and Testing Faculty Leader, and the Assessment Centre Coordinator monitor and improve assessment processes and procedures, and ensure that the validity, reliability, and objectivity of English assessments and placement practices are maintained.

The EPC will be knowledgeable of the English testing instruments and procedures and will demonstrate strict adherence to protocols of security and confidentiality.
The EPC will maintain professional competence in the field of assessment and will remain current with innovative developments, practices, and models of assessment. The EPC works collaboratively with the Assessment and Testing Officers, the School of Access Faculty Assessors, the Department of English, and others within the college including: Student Services, Student Navigators, Camosun International, Indigenous Connections and Community Connections, and Academic Advising.

 Knowledge of the different levels of preparatory and academic English offered within the School of Access and the School of Arts and Science;
 Training and experience in explaining and defending evaluation criteria and test results;
 Knowledge of English Accuplacer assessment platforms, tools, and updates;
 Strong counselling skills including the ability to:
o Interact effectively and relate to students of varying learning potentials, learning backgrounds, and educational experiences;
o Demonstrate clear and compassionate communication verbally and in writing;
o Respond effectively to clients who may have an emotional response to their assessment results;
 Ability to work under pressure in a fast paced deadline driven environment;
 Detail oriented;
 Adaptability and flexibility in order to meet student and departmental needs;
 Comfort and familiarity with MS Office programs such as Outlook, Office and Excel;
 Master’s Degree in a related field;
 Minimum of three (3) years of recent teaching experience at the secondary and post-secondary level;
 Training and experience evaluating written English in a professional, post-secondaryand/or other educational setting.
